I've been listening to "shows" on the internet since 1999. From listening to a Streaming RealMedia Show about Transformers(...y'know like about the old toys and cartoons before there were new toys and new cartoons, not to mention the movies) made in some dudes basement but which was amazingly well produced, to now listening to shows on an iPod which are now made professionally by well known comedians. I love the podcast format, I always loved radio talk shows and generally its like a Radio Talk show without commercials, and where people can can talk about anything...plus its free!

I started listening to Diggnation, TWiT, and Comic Geek Speak way back when, soon after I got my first iPod(4th Generation, right before the photo/color) and it was *magic*. At one point I had a job where was in a truck or walking by myself all day and I needed entertainment for about 9 or 10 hours a day. In which I got deep into the rich Comic Book Podcast community for a while, I was listening to Comic Geek Speak, Around Comics, Comic Book Page, iFanboy, WordBalloon, Uncanny X-Cast, Half Hour Wasted, Comic Timing, and even Fanboy Radio. There is no community in Podcasting better than them, there is so many, and so many good ones, and everybody knows each other, and all had really rich forums where they all try to get people involved in the shows. But that all imploded on me, I just burned me out eventually. Spending more time listening to people talk about comics than I had time to read comics.

Then I moved to an office job, and around the same time Adam Carolla started his podcast. A daily show, first doing one on one long form interviews and then moved to become a kind of combination "morning show" and "late nite talk show". And all this time I had been listening to Smodcast with Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier, which was a great unbelieveably hilarious show. But once "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" was being filmed and then once it had come out and sadly bombed, that show changed a lot. Once Kevin started smoking weed, the show changed not necessarilly for the worst, but became a different animal. Smodcast expanded a lot, and eventually became a live show and that was the point, which I wasn't a huge fan of, just felt it became more of pandering to the audience. I now only listen to the non-live episodes on Smodcast. Through Carolla's show I found the Nerdist Podcast with Chris Hardwick, and Fitzdog Radio with Greg Fitzsimmons, both hilarious shows. For Video Game info I had been listening to Gamespot's Hotspot podcast with Rich Gallup, Jeff Gerstmann, and others for a while but hosts changed hands a couple times, and just became less fun. This all came to a head when Jeff Gerstmann got fired very publicly from Gamespot (if you followed that site, or gaming news at the time) seemingly for editorial reasons. Not too long after that a huge chunk of people left Gamespot because of what happened to Jeff. A few months later Jeff and some other former Gamespot staff launched GiantBomb.com, and with it the Giant Bombcast, which had all the fun of the old Hotspot show and more.

Next big change was unemployed for about 3.5 months, which got me way behind in all my shows, I had to start picking and choosing which ones were important to me, since at my new job I didn't have all day to kill listening to podcasts while I was working. So I've paired it down quite a bit from my haydays. The list I have now of shows that I subscribe to is:

- The Adam Carolla Show (Weekdays)

- Around Comics (Monthly)

- Giant Bombcast (Weekly)

- The Nerdist (2x Weekly)

- Wordballoon (Weekly?)

- 11 o'clock Comics (Weekly)

A couple other shows I listen to sporadically depending on the episode are:

- Comic Geek Speak - depends on the topic, because they release episodes so frequently, and on topics I have no interest in at times, but a great group and probably the best all around Comics Podcast, more than 1000 episodes strong!

- Smodcast - Only the episodes which are not live, which seem to be dwindling

The one big thing that came from listening to podcasts was when Comic Geek Speak's started doing their Supershow. I've never been to full on comic show, but this smaller show was great met a ton of people from the forums, got to meet tons of amazing artists (with sketches at much cheaper prices), and got to meet someone who became a good buddy of mine Chad B, how cool is that! Please go out and find some podcasts, don't listen to radio...it sucks. If you have an interest, there is someone doing a podcast on it...in fact there's probably at least 10. Also you probably listen to Adam Carolla's show...its pretty great.

In Memorium:

Here's a list of Podcasts I no longer listen to, or have passed on...they will be missed (I'm sure I'll think of more I forgot)

I went back to Redcliffe, to prepare with our troops for the final battle. Then Alistair and I found out what it truely means to be a Grey Warden, and why we're the only ones who can destroy the Archdemon(a giant dragon). If we manage to slay the dragon his essence will simple travel to one of the lesser darkspawn and rise again. But since in the Grey Warden initiation we drink the blood of the darkspawn, the essence of the Archdemon will go into who ever takes the killing blow...killing him and destroying the Archdemon(forever?). So either Alistair or myself would die in this mission. But once I got back to my room I was met by Morrigan, the dark witch who has been in my party. She knew of what would happen with the Archdemon, and knew of a way to kill the Archdemon without me or Alistair dying. It was a dark ritual...I had to sleep with her to conceive a child, who when the Archdemon died his essence would instead of going into me, it would go into the baby. Not killing it, but supposedly purifying the soul of the old god that became the Archdemon. Ane Morrigan would leave forever and I could not go after her. I agreed to this bargan, and didn't mention it to my paramour Leliana. So the next day we head into battle, the new king Alistair gave some rousing speeches, using my example to get the troops riled up, then we were off. I had to choose my team to go fight the Darkspawn Generals, leaving the rest of my party to defend the Gates. I ended up bringing Alistair for Attack/Defense, Morrigan for Healing Spells/Long range attacks, and Oghren to hit things with a big sword. I left Sten, Leliana, Zevron, and my dog to defend the gates against more darkspawn. After climbing the tower, calling on my army of dwarves and mages, we went at it with the Archdemon. To put it simply I kicked his ass, made the killing blow, and became the Champion of Fereldin. Everyone was very surprised that I survived the ordeal, but happy, and Morrigan disapeared the next day, never seen again. During the process of this game, I had a threeway with 2 dwarf ladies, a prostitute, Morrigan(twice), Leliana, and I only sired 2 bastard children.

Sherlock is a modern version(in modern times that is) of Sherlock Holmes brought to us by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss some the writers behind Doctor Who, Jekyll, and the League of Gentlemen. The first season of this show was only 3 episodes each lasting 90 minutes. Kind of a more serious Doctor Who or House M.D. solving crimes. I originally watched these episodes a couple months ago, the first episode "A Study in Pink" was fantastic, really good. For the other two episodes I fell asleep, not because they were boring but because I was very sleepy. Especially damning in the last episode, I fell asleep halfway through a particularly interesting mystery, and the big reveal of Moriarty. I had been meaning to watch it for a while, and finally got to it. It was worth watching again it was excellent. Sherlock's street has been bombed and they found a letter calling him out to solve a mystery or else there will be another bombing. This continues for about 3 or 4 rounds, solving mysteries and stopping bombs, all distracting him away from the real important mystery. But to Sherlock these bombing mysteries are more fun. We find out Moriarty is involved (his name was dropped in episode 1) so Sherck becomes even more myopic on these other mysteries. But I won't be more descriptive than that cause the real fun is seeing how Holmes solves the various mysteries.

After that I jumped back into my seeming neverending quest to finish Dragon Age. Now that I have the dwarves support in battling the darkspawn, I could go to the capital city of Denerim to finally unseat Loghain who has been trying to usurp the throne, since the King died in battle partially due to Loghain leaving with the army at a critical juncture. His daughter the Queen has secretly been captured by one of Loghain's loyalists , my sources found out and I had to go in and rescue her. Along the way I found evidence of even more of Loghain's treatchery so I could sway people to my side at the upcoming landsmeet. I freed the Queen, getting her support in stopping her father. Then I had to stop a group of slavers who were tricking a bunch of elves into giving themselves over, with the promise of a cure to an outbrak of plaugue in their part of town. Of couse I found they had been given permission to do this by Loghain. Then the Landsmeet truely began, the people quickly turned against him once his evil doings were made public. I had to fight him in one on one combat for final judgement. I won easily and I could have spared him but he had done too much evil...unforgiveable. With him dead and still no King, my fellow Grey Warden Alistair(bastard brother of the King) was convinced to take throne of his brother beside the Queen, to keep peace in Fereldon. But of course we still have the Blight of the Darkspawn to end, and an Archdemon to slay. I stopped there since there was other buisness to attend to.

After a late lunch I was off to a comic store, not my normal shop but one a bit farther away called Earthworld Comics to see if they had Invincible Iron Man #500. Almost a year ago I decided to switch to getting the trade on that book, but I couldn't wait any longer. I went and found all 9 issues I missed, and it took 3 comic shops to find them all. I read them all right before #500 came out, but by the time I got to the comic store that Wednesday...sold out. Last week I found a copy at Electric City Comics, but they only had one copy and it was mangled up. But this week at Earth World I found a perfectly good copy so I can finally sit down and read that giant issue. I also bought a comic called "Li'l Depressed Boy" from Image Comics, saw a preview in another book, looked interesting. The main character looks like a ragdoll, but everyone else seems normal, it seems like a slice of life comic, but the main character looks odd.

I finished off the day watching TV, nothing nerdy really. But me and my gf watched did watch another episode of Star Trek: Next Gen. In this one a planet of Alien Africans steal Tasha Yar and want her to marry their leader. The leader's wife is pissed she might loose her standing, and challeneges Tasha to Mortal Kombat. A really bad fight sequence later, everything is fine. The episode was called "Code of Honor" if you ever see it, it feels like it might be kind of racist, but I'm not sure why...its a seriously wierd episode. But at least today Captain Picard didn't stand by and watch any ships explode today so thats good. Also this is like the 3rd time in the last four episodes Tasha has mentioned the Rape Gangs on the colony she was originally from...like she just won't shut up about them. It just seems wierd to hear the words "rape gangs" on this show, it just seems out of place, like in the Star Trek future they would call them something more sophisticated like "despoilment coalitions" (thanks thesaurus.com!). The episode also features a scene of Levar Burton doing the worst pretend shaving ever, and also has Data trying to be funny...observe!

This week is winding down only 1 more days left and I will be employed again. It is slightly bitersweet, but getting paid is way better than not getting paid. Till tomorrow...

Unemployed Nerd Chronicles - Day 5: Is this Age Over Yet?

Very late with Day 5 here but let's not dwell on it.

On Day 5 I got up bright and early since there was no breakfast food, so I went out immediatly to aquire cereal, and fortune did indeed favor the bold as the local convenience store had some Resse's Peanut Butter Puffs. I'm 27 and I never tried them till last month, and they are devilishly good.

I went on to devour some of those Puffs while I watched more episodes of 'Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes'. On Day 1 I used some episodes of this show to sooth the wild 4 year old. Being a big Marvel Comics buff myself its charms were not wasted on me, so I watched the extra episodes I downloaded for the kid on Day 1 which I never had to use. All three episodes I watched had to deal with Kang the Conquerer, a time traveling despot from the far future, warning that Captain America wasn't supposed to be there, and his presence was going to wipe Kang's timeline from existence. Clearly, the only way to fix that problem is to first try to kill Cap, incuring the wraith of all the Avengers, and when that didn't work, he brought his entire armada back in time to Conquer this Earth to make sure the future happens the way Kang wants it. Needless to say it didn't work out well for him. This show is nothing but good time fun, traditional comic book type stories, told with modern ways. The show blends the classic Avengers stuff from 30-40 years ago with more recent continuity and it all works. The Nick Fury in this world is a combo of Samuel L Jackson (Ultimate Nick Fury/Movie Nick Fury) and traditional Fury and thankfully none of the Hasselhoff Fury...

this really happened

They also used the prison in the Negative Zone created by Reed Richards called project #42 which was introduced during Marvel's Civil War. Besides being fun, the show is just a comic book grab bag of cameos and fun references for the Marvel fan like me.

After I watched those, I wrote yesterday's post...which took a long time. In my mind I wasn't going to have time to do anythign today because I spent all my time writing the post about the day before. But I moved on to what I'm sure your all sick of by now...Dragon Age.

So still in the Dwarven Kingdom, I had to head into the Deep Roads to find the last remaining Dwarven Paragon to break the stalemate for who would be the next King. She had disappeared years ago searching for the Anvil of the Void, which was used to create Golems but had been lost. After many battles along the way we found her, she was unable to get past the traps laid to keep anyone from taking the Anvil. So we pressed on through the traps and discovered a Golem claiming to be the dwarf who created the anvil had laid them down to keep the Anvil from being used ever again. No one knew this, but the only way to make a Golem was to use the soul of a living person, and after having Golem-ship forced upon him he took the Anvil away. We defeated him, the Paragon made me a crown to give to the King of my choice, and then realizing the Anvil was to evil to keep she destroyed it and killed herself. I went back ended up naming my brother King(what a twist!), despite the fact he tricked me into killing my Older brother, and that I had originally agreed to support Harrowmont. But while my brother was a power hungry dick, I liked his policies for governing better. Bhelen even agreed to make my bastard son a true Auducen(my former house, before I was exciled). I gained the support of the dwarf army to aid against the darkspawn, and I pimped away.

Then the girlfriend came home and we watched some Star Trek: Next Gen. It really wasn't an episode of note, but for what seemed like the second day in row, Picard watched a federation ship which was clearly having severe problems explode without even trying to beam the crew off before they died. He just watches them and is trying to tell the other captain that his ship is in danger, but the communication is all messed up and impossible to understand. Picard comes off slightly like a dick in that scene to me, which I don't say lightly. Season 1 of Next Gen has some wierd episodes, which I will definetly get into for the Day 6 post, all I'm gonna say now is that it had Space Africans.

See ya tomorrow(or actually later today)...

Unemployed Nerd Chronicles - Day 4: New Comics & My Bastard's Honor

Day 4 started with watching "An Idiot Abroad" on the Science Channel, from Ricky Gervais and Steven Merchant, they sent their simple minded friend Karl Pilkington (with some of you might know from the "Ricky Gervais Show" on HBO) around the world to see the 7 wonders, to either broaden his mind or just annoy the shit out of him. He went off to Jordan and see Petra, where he discovererd he enjoyed living in a cave. It was pretty entertaining, but the episode when they sent him to China is still my favorite. The constant culture shock for this guy Karl is just priceless, plus his being totally unimpressed by all the wonders of the world and dismissing them.

After that I went to hook the Xbox up to the router and see if customer service had finished its job. I dragged all the stuff downstairs again and was pleased to find my Blood Dragon Armor ready for download. I played for a few minutes to check it out, but on my main save file I've literally done everything. Like a weirdo I played Mass Effect 2 before I played 1, which to be honest was a rough step back, the first one is a good game, but messed up in a lot of ways that were improved in ME2. The main think is I can import my save from 1 and replay with that version of my Sheperd character, which I made look just like my Mass Effect 2 Shepard just to add to the confusion. So next time I play through before ME3 comes out I will have even more awesome looking armor than I had before.

By this time it was noon, which meant new comics were available, so I went down to my local comic shop, Aquilonia to get my goods. I had four monthly books, and picked up DCs Time Masters: Vanishing Point mini series since it had just finished, which I plan to read in one sitting and do an All-In-One Review this week or next. But here's a rundown of the four main books I got this week.

---(Spoiler Warning)---

Amazing Spider-Man #654
"Revenge of the Spider-Slayer - Part 3: Self Inflicted Wounds"
Writer: Dan Slott/Fred Van Lente
Artist: Stefano Caselli

This brings to a close the second storyline in the new Dan Slott era of Spider-Man called "Big Time" where Peter Parker finally has a proper job/career using his brains and has the resouces to use for making himself a better crime-fighter, as well as having a shiny new girlfriend to romance. The first story saw the rise of a new Hobgoblin, and now the return of an improved Scorpion and the Spider-Slayers who arew out for revenge against the whole Jameson family. Spideys connection to the New Avengers came in handy last issue to provide some much needed back-up while Peter trys to solve the bigger problem, as well as some nice moments with Ben Grimm. The Avengers wew having trouble with these guys cause they all seemed to have the "sixth-sense" that Spider-Man has in anticipating the moves of others. So with his new brainy boss Max Modell they whip up a thing that will counter act it. Unfortunately when its activated Spider-Man is to close to it, totally knocking out his spider-sense for how long its not made clear. Of course this is a terrible time to lose it, and at the last moment he unable to anticipate the Spider-Slayers last ditch effort to kill JJJ where his wife jumped in the way. In her last moments she tells Jonah to give up all his hate, very touching moment I might add. And for once he blames himself and not Spider-Man, since he realizes it was he who had the Spider-Slayers created all those years ago which led to this. A very good issue in a long run of good issues, not much more to say about it

Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #7
"Last Will / Seeing Red"
Writer: Peter Tomasi
Artist: Fernando Pasarin

I am not even going to do a full plot summary because I'm not even sure 100% what was going on. Sodam Yat the former Ion is aparently being controlled, and being used to poison the Green Lantern Corps energy. Guy Gardner is trying to stop this and must use some of the Red Rage inside him to defeat this bad guy, and stop his main plan. But he still escapes with Sodam Yat in tow, and Gardner teams back up with Lanterns Arisia and Kilowog and they go off to try and catch this new bad guy. This is a Prelude to the "War of the Green Lanterns" which aparently starts next month and all the GL books are gonna cross-over, and everyone is gonna be mad at each other I bet. This has been an interesting book but the last two issues have been very convoluted IMO just a lot of explanations in the midst of battle and just generally not very clear. I'm still enjoying it, I just think i have to go back and refresh my memory of the last couple issues. And the War should be a lot of fun, like all the last GL cross-overs have been.

Justice League: Generation Lost #19
"Part Nineteen: And the Lord Taketh Away"
Writer: Judd Winick
Artist: Fernando Dagnino

This book is heading to its last few issues now, and while very enjoyable not entirely certain what the end game is other than stopping Maxwell Lord...because he's gonna do something bad, but we're still not sure what it is. He's captured the new Blue Beetle, and we get a breif history of him and the past two people who were called Blue Beetle. Max seems to be trying to learn all about the scarab that gives Beetle his armor and powers, torturing him in the process. Beetle gets a chance to do something, and signals the rest of his teammates Booster Gold, Captain Atom, Rocket Red, Fire and Ice. Of course we find out for what feels like the fifth time that what their team has been doing has just helped Max with what he's been trying to do. And the team arrives at the last moment just as Max shoots this new Blue Beetle in the head as he did the last one, seemingly killing him. So in that respect I imagine shit is gonna go down in the next issue. Waiting for the big endgame to reveal itself, but still enjoying the ride. Its nice seeing this group of characters with a lot of history forced together, but I will be sad if this is the last we see of the current Blue Beetle.

New Avengers #9
"Infinity - Part 1"
Writer: Brian Bendis
Artist: Howard Chaykin/Mike Deodato Jr.

New Avengers has probably been my favorite book of all the new Avengers titles I'm reading, its generally more fun, funny, and a bit more grounded. Plus I just like Ben Grimm, Spider-Man, and Luke Cage together, they amuse me. This book started off with a Nick Fury flashback from 1959 showing him taking some Nazis out who escaped the trials after the war. Then we go to the New Avengers getting ready to jump some bad guys led by Superia a bad guy I havn't seen since she tried to turn Cap and Paladin into ladies...seriously. At first they are hesistant since she hasn't done anything yet...but clearly will do something, so Ben Grimm makes the decision for them and goes in to start the fight forcing the rest of them to join in. It all seems to go well until Mockingbird takes a shot to the chest...and there's a lot of blood. She practically just got 'resurrected' would be a shame if she died already. But after that we go back to the Fury flashback and the president is calling in Nick Fury to help with a project called...(bum bum BUM) The Avengers Initiative. What could that mean?? Bendis is doing some of the same kind of storytelling he used a lot during Secret Invasion. Clearly we're gonna learn some secret history of the Marvel Universe, and its gonna have something to do with the New Avengers.

The last nerdy thing I did was play more Dragon Age. I finally went back to my home within the Dwarven caverns of Orzamar where I was exiled after being tricked into killing my brother who was heir to my father's throne (this was all at the very beginning of my game), but I was set up by my younger brother Bheilin who is now trying to take the throne after my father died during my absense. I did a bunch of little side-quests and proved my honor in the Proving Grounds, now I must head into the Deep Roads to find the last remaining Paragon to settle the despute for who will be the new King, my SOB brother Bhelin or my fathers advisor Harrowmont who seems like a nice guy. I think I will be supporting Harrowmont as king, since he has agreed to restore the honor of the son I incidently fathered at the beginning of the game during a tumble with two eager dwarf ladies (again crazy game), but it was my choice and I will take responsibilty for my actions.

Taking advantage of being unemployed for a few more days I didn't get up till almost 10am, just in time to go pick up 'You Don't Know Jack' from the local Gamestop. If anyone is not familiar with this series of games, it is "the original quiz show party game" debuting in 1995, and spawning now 7 versions or Volumes, with at least 10 spinoffs/expansions, and even a short lived TV Gameshow, its been primarily a PC game with a few console versions mixed in. All the games have featured irreverent humor, crazy question types, and a number of different hosts, behind the scenes wackyness, and the constant ways it likes to mess with the player. I've been playing these games since the first one, and really fell in love with Vol. 4: The Ride. I played that disc till it was totally unusable. But this is the first all new version in a number of years and I have been excited. So I purchased it, went home and ripped into it. I first tried to play online, cause it always more fun with other people, but sadly no one else was online yet. So I fired it up to play a couple rounds by myself, and instantly I was home, my favorite host Cookie was back berating me for wrong answers, ahh. After playing two of the episodes I tried online again and found some people to play with, and good times were had by all. This game includes 76 'episodes' each with their own hidden bits, wth the promise of more downloadable episodes to come. Plus it was only $30 a steal, its available on just aout any system thats available, I highly recommend it as a great party game or just some fun between friends.

After a few rounds of Jack, I had to dive into Dragon Age again, if I don't finish before my job starts I may never finish since the girlfriend still has the expansion packs to play through. So I fought a mess of Cultists, while trying to aquire some of the Ashes of Andraste, so I can heal Arl Eamon who can help me unseat Baron Loghain who is trying to usurp the throne of Fereldon for himself! After some trials, I got the ashes thankfully. Went back to camp to talk to my party members, and in trying to get to know the dark witch Morrigan better I accidentally triggered, the option to 'get it on' with her. Since I have been romancing the lovely bard Leliana I was concerned I might ruin my chances with her. Like the in-game man whore that I am, slept wth Morrigan and then went to Leliana and apologized breaking it off with Morrigan forever. Seriously Bioware you guys make some crazy but awesome games, that I can even have such a situation occur in a video game. I also hope that made some kind of sense to anyone not familiar with this game. I called it quits after that...seemed like a good place to end.

My lady came home and we each found some dinner, and sat down to watch our 'new' show, Star Trek: The Next Generation. I watched the show when it was originally on, and I was a pre-teen back then. She's never seen it much before, but likes Picard and enjoyed First Contact back in the day. We've been watching them a lot lately due to the lack of good tv on lately, and between Syfy, BBCAmerica, and the CW we're never at a loss for episodes. We watched the Season 1 episode "The Naked Now" which is pretty crazy, all the crew members being infected with a virus that makes them drunk, Wesley takes over the ship, The Doctor makes a pass at Captain Picard, and Data gets laid by Tasha Yar. Somehow in all this Data despite being an adroid contracts this virus as well. But the scene in which Tasha 'seduces' Data is classic, pure hillarity.

He'd be crazy not to hit that

After that the gf busted into playing to the Dragon Age Expansion pack, Awakening. This left me to read some comics...which I will mention in a future post. But it didn't last very long, because I soon fell asledep, thus bringing Day 3 to a close. Till tomorrow...

Unemployed Nerd Chronicles - Day 2: Mass Effects

I mentioned in Day 1 how I purchased the Ultimate Edition of Dragon Age: Origins to get all the DLC, but it also included a code for a special in-game item in Mass Effect 2, the infamous Blood Dragon Armor. I bought the copy of Dragon Age Used, but it still had the page with the code in the box...and thankfully hadn't been redeemed, so lucky me.

pretty sweet lookin' right?

So I followed the instructions and created a bioware/EA account but had no way of adding my Xbox gamertag to the account. And going in Mass Effect 2, I had no way to specify what account to login to. After a lot of fiddling with EA/Bioware's site and Pressing random buttons in Mass Effect 2, I realized what was wrong. I bought Mass effect 2 over a year ago I'm betting, and when I created the account initially, I used a fake e-mail address ending in @ihateyou.com (oh yeah, sticking to the man) . So I had been playing it now almost a year later and totally forgot all that, I had been buying all the DLC, all tagged to this account I had no way of ever getting to. So I had to call customer service and go through all the hoops to get a real person, first their phone system was down, but third try I got through, explained my situation and am now waiting for the problem to get fixed. Of course while I've been waiting, I played that last bit of DLC. When my problem is all solved I will have no game left to play, but I imagine I will go through it again right before Mass Effect 3 comes out in November.

The "Overlord" mission was pretty cool, I had to investigate a rouge AI program gone wrong, but turned out it was a Human intelligence plugged into the computer system, I got to use the Hover tank to go around a bit and do some platforming type stuff, more twists in the story, some gun battling where I got to try out the new guns from the other DLC I purchased. Turned out to be a nice 3 or so hour chunk of gameplay and story, well worth the 5 or 6 bucks it cost me.

The only other nerd stuff I got to do was start reading the 'Axe Cop' TPB that my buddy Chad lent me, and its pretty fun so far. Its a character and story created by a 5 year old, but drawn by his pro comic artist brother. You can check it out at http://www.axecop.com/ . Its pretty hilarious, randomness on a lot of levels, but also an interesting view on how a 5 year old sees the world and the kind of imagination you have as a child. Highly recommended and can't wait to read more of it tomorrow

that really says it all

The rest of Day 2 consisted of shoveling snow off of a roof, drinking, eating pizza, and peeing in the snow...so nothing of interest. Oh I did pre-order Dragon Age 2 and You Don't Know Jack while I was out. See you all tomorrow for When I actually go get the new You Don't Know Jack right as Gamestop opens.

Unemployed Nerd Chronicles - Day 1

Prolougue: Well I decieded to Chronicle my nerd antics for the week. I meant to start this earlier...as I had been unemployed for the past two months. But I recieved a job offer this past Friday, so I will be employed again starting the 14th of this month. Since this leaves me with a week with no obligations I will be cramming as much video game, comic reading, and movie/tv watching I can this week, before I have significantly less free time

Day 1: Super Sunday

Day started off as it has the last 2 weekends, with me waking up before my girlfriend and playing a little bit of Dragon Age: Origins(PS3) before she wakes up and takes over the game for the rest of the day. Getting her into games is super cool, but she has become quickly obsessed with this game, and worries me at times with how much she likes her in game paramour Allistair.

I initially rented the game for her, as it came recommended since she liked Diablo 2. That turned into us planning on just keeping the game and paying for it, and then became returning it so we could buy a version of the game with the Expansion pack and DLC. I was playing through Mass Effect and finished, she recommended I start playing Dragon Age as well, but that comes second to her playing the game, she has now almost finished it twice, while I'm just a little bit over halfway through the game.

In Dragon Age I am playing a Dwarven Rouge named Harken, in the process of wooing Leliana, and spending waay too much time in the equipment screen messing with my characters. Its a good game with a great story behind it, although after playing both Mass Effect games the fact the main character doesn't speak is slightly annoying. I still have about 3 more main quests before I goto the big final shindig to slay the dragon (spoilers) so I plan to make short work of that game this week and move on to another game in my backlog.

Since today was Super Bowl Sunday some of my girlfriend's family was joining us and I had to entertain a 4 year old for a time, thankfully he's really obsessed with Iron Man so I could totally handle this problem, I found an episode of Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes on the internet and he was entertained for a time, when it was over he wanted more and I found some on the TV but for whatever reason he seemed to think my computer was hiding better episodes than was availableon the TV. He then digressed to playing Warriors Orochi, the PSP version of Dynasty Warriors, which is a strange game for a child that age. Basically the game to him is getting assistance to get him to the point where he could mash buttons and kill people. At one point he busted out some Transformers toys which are normally my forte, but these things were impossible to transform. Only one of them made any sense and even then none of the parts would lock into place. After about 30mins of three grown adults messing with them while watching TV, we gave up.

Then the game started and I did actually watch most of it. Its the one football game I pay attention to for the year, even if its mainly just to see commercials and movie promos for the coming year. I caught most of them, the main ones I was interested in was Thor, Captain America, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and Super 8.

Thor: More of what we've already seen in the preview trailers, although they did show a nice money shot of him pounding the ground with the hammer making a crazy shockwave and messin stuff up.

Cap: The first footage I and most people have seen in motion. The effects showing the scrawny Chris Evans looks pretty good, nice shot of the Red Skull and some action in the Cap suit, looks way cool.

In case of Thor and Cap I had to hear my girlfriend rag on the costumes and saying that both movies look stupid. I diagree but there's no way she's going to convince me otherwise, and vice versa.

Trans: looks like Transformers defending Earth from a full-on invasion, and a quick scene of Optimus wrecking dudes.

Super 8: Still pretty ambiguous, scary unseen monster, kids, trains...thats all I got from it.

Very suprised there was no Green Lantern promo.

Gave up watching the game right before the 4th Quarter to play some weird board game in which I had to become wrapped up like a gift for the remainder of the game...I don't remember what it was called. And as soon as everyone else left to go home, the gf went back to killing Darkspawn in Dragon Age...which left time to write this

See you all tomorrow, in which I hopefully finish Dragon Age, and get excited about a Quiz game making a return "You Don't Know Jack".

Siege is a week late, and it shows, the Heroic Age is bursting at the seams to get out. This week is murder for a poor nerd like me.

Adventure Comics #11 - ENDING! The end of Robinson's Mon-El story, and wrap up the Legion's involvement in the current timeline. I enjoyed it, but sad it had to get shunted over here..

Amazing Spider-Man #631 - First part of this story was pretty good, I was a little cold on Bachalo for a while but all his Spider-Man stuff from the last couple years has been great. Yet another classic bad guy made dangerous again and awesome, Lizard is kinda scary.

Avengers Initiative #35 - ENDING! Final Issue. I had every issue of this series up to when I stopped right after Secret Invasion, but got some issues in some 50cent/$1 bins, and figure I'm gonna go back and get the whole run. Has been pretty good, Christos Gage writes a pretty fun book. I plan on getting Avengers Academy when it starts as well.

Birds Of Prey #1 - [dcbs] I assume I'll be getting this in trade, just testing this issue out. I've only read Gail's first BOP story from way back, and eventually would like to get the whole run. I like Gail and she's earned my faith on any book she does. And I liked Ed Benes on Justice League, but i think this book is more to his strengths and style.

Dark Avengers #16 - ENDING! Final Issue. I've enjoyed the story in this book, not as much of a Deodato fan as others, but I enjoy it as part of the larger Bendis Avengers story. Its basically become a Norman/Sentry book, though Bullseye had a great moment in the last issue. Interested to see if this issue is going to act as an end for this series or as just another part of Siege.

Doctor Voodoo Avenger Of Supernatural Tp - [dcbs] First issue of this series was fantastic, I was very excited for when this Tp came out. Sadly, it was cancelled before this was even solicited, which is a little depressing. It looked to have a lot of promise and the creators were very excited and had some long term plans, But I still can't wait to read it.

Fallen Siege - ENDING! Literally no idea what this is, if its a real story, or if its like the Secret Invasion: Requiem where its mostly reprinted material. I could also be like Civil War: The Confession or if this is the bridge book between Dark Reign and Heroic Age. I plan on getting it, but am gonna flip through it at the store and make my final desicion.

Heroic Age Prince Of Power #1 (OF 4) - [dcbs] I like many people loved the hell out of Incredible Hercules, this is the continuation of that story more or less and now that Herc is gone Amadeus is front and center. Looks to be more monster fighting and hillarity. Not sure if I will wait for the TP on this or not yet.

Hulk #22 & Incredible Hulk #609 - World War Hulks!! Kind of excited, I really enjoyed Fall of the Hulks. Its a very interesting way these 2 titles tie-in with each other and can be read pretty separately. The last month of HOH and the WWHs One-Shot, were only ok and didn't satisfy my hunger for awesome Hulk shenanigans.

Justice League Generation Lost #1 - Maxwell Lord is alive and F-ing Crazy! I like a lot of the characters involved and creators as well, and I like weekly comics. I hope this series is fun.

New Avengers Finale #1 - ENDING! Aparently this is finishing out the Hood section of the New Avengers story, and its gonna have some pretty Bryan Hitch art. Umm I bought the last 64 issues of New Avengers, why wouldn't I get this? I'm looking foreward to it, and again hope it actually works as a good "finale" since New Avengers is going on Hiatus for only a month before it relaunches.

New Mutants #13 - [dcbs] Next Part of 2nd Coming, which I've enjoyed so far, end of the month I am gonna read the shit out of all of these 2nd Coming issues.

Siege #4 (OF 4) - ENDING! End of Siege, end of Dark Reign, Umm I imagine the Avengers are gonna come together, and defeat the Sentry, Call me crazy but that is my prediction. Re-reading the 3 other issues of Siege today to hopefully get the full effect. Its gonna be pretty as hell, Copiel is pretty good, don't know if you've heard.

Siege Embedded #4 (OF 4) - [dcbs] ENDING! I kind of got this series for the hell of it, totally could have skipped it...its ok at best.

Superman War Of The Supermen #2 (OF 4) - Spoiler! (New)Krypton exploded! thats crazy! First issue was cool, and I've bought all of the Superman stuff since New Krypton started,,,,I'm gonna see this one to the end.

The Marvels Project #8 (OF 8) - [dcbs] ENDING! A good book, wish I had waited for TP on this, the wait between issues has hurt it a bit for me. I keeps forgeting things that have happened, but each issue has been pretty great on its own. I feel this book fell under the radar, hope people go back and check this out. Its pretty darn good, better that Captain America has been lately to be honest.

Underground Tp - Didn't even know this was coming out, otherwise would have ordered it on DCBS. Its Jeff Parker, like Gail Simone and Dan Slott, this guy has earned my "I will buy it cause your awesome". I love Agents of Atlas, Mysterious the Unfathomable, First Class, and his secondary Hulk Stuff.
