Unemployed Nerd Chronicles - Day 3: Actually I'm Quite Familiar With Jack
Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 9:08PM A bit late with today's acticle, but conversely I have plenty to discuss for tomorrow's...but anyway.
Taking advantage of being unemployed for a few more days I didn't get up till almost 10am, just in time to go pick up 'You Don't Know Jack' from the local Gamestop. If anyone is not familiar with this series of games, it is "the original quiz show party game" debuting in 1995, and spawning now 7 versions or Volumes, with at least 10 spinoffs/expansions, and even a short lived TV Gameshow, its been primarily a PC game with a few console versions mixed in. All the games have featured irreverent humor, crazy question types, and a number of different hosts, behind the scenes wackyness, and the constant ways it likes to mess with the player. I've been playing these games since the first one, and really fell in love with Vol. 4: The Ride. I played that disc till it was totally unusable. But this is the first all new version in a number of years and I have been excited. So I purchased it, went home and ripped into it. I first tried to play online, cause it always more fun with other people, but sadly no one else was online yet. So I fired it up to play a couple rounds by myself, and instantly I was home, my favorite host Cookie was back berating me for wrong answers, ahh. After playing two of the episodes I tried online again and found some people to play with, and good times were had by all. This game includes 76 'episodes' each with their own hidden bits, wth the promise of more downloadable episodes to come. Plus it was only $30 a steal, its available on just aout any system thats available, I highly recommend it as a great party game or just some fun between friends.
After a few rounds of Jack, I had to dive into Dragon Age again, if I don't finish before my job starts I may never finish since the girlfriend still has the expansion packs to play through. So I fought a mess of Cultists, while trying to aquire some of the Ashes of Andraste, so I can heal Arl Eamon who can help me unseat Baron Loghain who is trying to usurp the throne of Fereldon for himself! After some trials, I got the ashes thankfully. Went back to camp to talk to my party members, and in trying to get to know the dark witch Morrigan better I accidentally triggered, the option to 'get it on' with her. Since I have been romancing the lovely bard Leliana I was concerned I might ruin my chances with her. Like the in-game man whore that I am, slept wth Morrigan and then went to Leliana and apologized breaking it off with Morrigan forever. Seriously Bioware you guys make some crazy but awesome games, that I can even have such a situation occur in a video game. I also hope that made some kind of sense to anyone not familiar with this game. I called it quits after that...seemed like a good place to end.
My lady came home and we each found some dinner, and sat down to watch our 'new' show, Star Trek: The Next Generation. I watched the show when it was originally on, and I was a pre-teen back then. She's never seen it much before, but likes Picard and enjoyed First Contact back in the day. We've been watching them a lot lately due to the lack of good tv on lately, and between Syfy, BBCAmerica, and the CW we're never at a loss for episodes. We watched the Season 1 episode "The Naked Now" which is pretty crazy, all the crew members being infected with a virus that makes them drunk, Wesley takes over the ship, The Doctor makes a pass at Captain Picard, and Data gets laid by Tasha Yar. Somehow in all this Data despite being an adroid contracts this virus as well. But the scene in which Tasha 'seduces' Data is classic, pure hillarity.
He'd be crazy not to hit that
After that the gf busted into playing to the Dragon Age Expansion pack, Awakening. This left me to read some comics...which I will mention in a future post. But it didn't last very long, because I soon fell asledep, thus bringing Day 3 to a close. Till tomorrow...
