Unemployed Nerd Chronicles - Day 5: Is this Age Over Yet?
Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11:16PM Very late with Day 5 here but let's not dwell on it.
On Day 5 I got up bright and early since there was no breakfast food, so I went out immediatly to aquire cereal, and fortune did indeed favor the bold as the local convenience store had some Resse's Peanut Butter Puffs. I'm 27 and I never tried them till last month, and they are devilishly good.
I went on to devour some of those Puffs while I watched more episodes of 'Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes'. On Day 1 I used some episodes of this show to sooth the wild 4 year old. Being a big Marvel Comics buff myself its charms were not wasted on me, so I watched the extra episodes I downloaded for the kid on Day 1 which I never had to use. All three episodes I watched had to deal with Kang the Conquerer, a time traveling despot from the far future, warning that Captain America wasn't supposed to be there, and his presence was going to wipe Kang's timeline from existence. Clearly, the only way to fix that problem is to first try to kill Cap, incuring the wraith of all the Avengers, and when that didn't work, he brought his entire armada back in time to Conquer this Earth to make sure the future happens the way Kang wants it. Needless to say it didn't work out well for him. This show is nothing but good time fun, traditional comic book type stories, told with modern ways. The show blends the classic Avengers stuff from 30-40 years ago with more recent continuity and it all works. The Nick Fury in this world is a combo of Samuel L Jackson (Ultimate Nick Fury/Movie Nick Fury) and traditional Fury and thankfully none of the Hasselhoff Fury...
this really happened
They also used the prison in the Negative Zone created by Reed Richards called project #42 which was introduced during Marvel's Civil War. Besides being fun, the show is just a comic book grab bag of cameos and fun references for the Marvel fan like me.
After I watched those, I wrote yesterday's post...which took a long time. In my mind I wasn't going to have time to do anythign today because I spent all my time writing the post about the day before. But I moved on to what I'm sure your all sick of by now...Dragon Age.
So still in the Dwarven Kingdom, I had to head into the Deep Roads to find the last remaining Dwarven Paragon to break the stalemate for who would be the next King. She had disappeared years ago searching for the Anvil of the Void, which was used to create Golems but had been lost. After many battles along the way we found her, she was unable to get past the traps laid to keep anyone from taking the Anvil. So we pressed on through the traps and discovered a Golem claiming to be the dwarf who created the anvil had laid them down to keep the Anvil from being used ever again. No one knew this, but the only way to make a Golem was to use the soul of a living person, and after having Golem-ship forced upon him he took the Anvil away. We defeated him, the Paragon made me a crown to give to the King of my choice, and then realizing the Anvil was to evil to keep she destroyed it and killed herself. I went back ended up naming my brother King(what a twist!), despite the fact he tricked me into killing my Older brother, and that I had originally agreed to support Harrowmont. But while my brother was a power hungry dick, I liked his policies for governing better. Bhelen even agreed to make my bastard son a true Auducen(my former house, before I was exciled). I gained the support of the dwarf army to aid against the darkspawn, and I pimped away.
Then the girlfriend came home and we watched some Star Trek: Next Gen. It really wasn't an episode of note, but for what seemed like the second day in row, Picard watched a federation ship which was clearly having severe problems explode without even trying to beam the crew off before they died. He just watches them and is trying to tell the other captain that his ship is in danger, but the communication is all messed up and impossible to understand. Picard comes off slightly like a dick in that scene to me, which I don't say lightly. Season 1 of Next Gen has some wierd episodes, which I will definetly get into for the Day 6 post, all I'm gonna say now is that it had Space Africans.
See ya tomorrow(or actually later today)...
